Undergraduate Thesis Exhibition
Place of Unrest navigates the experience of a restless mind and body, my troubled relationship with sleep, and how elements such as color, line, and pattern can influence a subject’s and environment's representation. Experimenting with the portrayal of the unconscious and conscious mind, the vulnerability of a sleeping body, and interior domestic spaces, I depicted my figures in a state of unrest. Working with the materiality of paint and often thinning it down to light washes, I let the medium determine the presence of the sleeping subject. Simultaneously, the composition and setting move in and out of their concrete forms.
